Why do you need Yoga?
List of benefits of Yoga goes on and on, just in a few general points:
Physical health and fitness.
Emotional stability. Less dependence on emotions and on outside influences... and more sensitivity at the same time.
Effective stress relief. Proper relaxation.
Developing a deeper approach to life. Mindfulness.
Enlightenment. Nirvana. Happiness...
Yoga develops your physical body, keeps it healthy and fit
Whole body, all muscles become fit without strain, damage and price of the gym exercises. Sure, if working out in right doses gyms are useful, but few do it right. In any case, gyms are just a little part, a very beginning, very incomplete in many ways approach in comparison to all 8 limbs of Yoga, which developing, helping in all aspects of life. One may say that modern gym is like babyhood in comparison to wisdom of a few thousands of years of Yoga way.
Yoga develops you physically in the best way
One of the most important things in Yoga is that it makes your body to develop, to improve in a harmonious way. For example, developing your breath, your lungs capacity together with your muscles. I remember once I was helping my friend to move furniture from one apartment to another. We had to go upstairs, 8 levels many times with heavy stuff. He was amazed by strength and agility of a Yoga practitioner. He didn't expected that... So, gym is not the only and not the best way to get stronger... :-) I'm "concentrated" a bit on physical advantages here just to help you to get started, to show you that Yoga is for everybody, for those who care about physical strength too. Of course, Yoga is MUCH more than that...
Yoga improves internal organs condition too
Internal organs get massage, they come back to proper functioning. In particular, digestion improves, situation with weight improves (you gain weight if you have it too small or lose weigh if have some extra) - it goes to normal, healthy. Inner pressure stabilizes. Headaches disappear. Think how many things depend on proper internal organs functioning: from digestion, to headaches, to skin and hair condition, etc. Even sleep becomes deeper and better quality. Just a few of these benefits of Yoga worth all the effort you put into it. But you will get much more! - That's the beauty of it. :-)
Yoga for stress relief
Virtually stress free or at least much less stressed life. - There is no question that modern society puts a lot of pressure on many of us. We have competition at work. Sometimes we have difficult relationships with our colleagues, friends, relatives. We are under stress of a constant comparison with others, with "ideals" presented in all kinds of media around us. We stress out of all kinds of fears (to loose a job, to be alone, etc.)... Yoga helps with all these. It's probably one of the most important positive effect we have from Yoga practice.
